How to choose your lightweight cornice
Lightweight cornice offers significant benefits to consumers and professionals and can save time and money when compared to traditional counterparts. As popularity grows, and more options become available, it is important to know what to look for when choosing a quality product.
The Cornice Store stocks lightweight cornice manufactured by DS4 Decor, a local cornice manufacturer based in Victoria. DS4 Decor are dedicated to delivering great value market-leading products.
Here are some things to consider when choosing your lightweight cornice:
Material grade:
There are various types of material that would fall into this category, including Polyurethane, Expanded Polystyrene, and XPS polymer foam.
We use high-density closed cell XPS polymer foam, which is rigid and has a crisp finish comparable to traditional couterparts while offering all the benefits of a lightweight option.
Other manufacturers often use expanded polystyrene (EPS), which shares many of the benefits offered by XPS but does not have a similarly crisp finish.
Reliable supply chain and material standards
Most products you may encounter is made from XPS or EPS foam imported from international markets.
While there might be some slight cost benefit, it’s important to understand the standards to which these products are manufactured.
Our material is supplied by a local Australian manufacturer, and is tested thoroughly to ensure that it meets the strict standards required for use in large-scale construction projects. Techical and Safety data sheets are available for download from our site.
Our material supplier is the only local manufacturer of XPS foam, and a simple way to identify the material is through its distinctive light green colour, which is the colour of our raw cornice before paint.
Usability:
Most lightweight cornice is only available in 2 meter lengths.
Our bespoke manufacturing capability gives us the benefit of a 20% longer run, so our products are 2.4 meter per length. While they are still super light, easy to transport, and simple to install, they offer greater coverage per unit, so less wastage, fewer joins, and reduced installation time.
Sustainability:
We take great care to ensure that our products aren’t harmful to our customers or our planet.
Polystyrene and plastic pollution is a significant ecological challenge, and we’re proud to say that not only do our products not contribute to the problem, they actively help reduce it!
Our material is made from recycled packaging polystyrene, diverted from landfill, and manufactured into XPS foam for use in the Australian construction industry.
Each cornice bought from us is a piece of packaging polystyrene that is not in landfill, and is rather sitting undisturbed for decades as a beautiful decorative element.
Our made without the use of any ozone depleting substance and is well below VOC thresholds.
Local manufacturing:
Many products in market are imported from either Europe or Asia.
DS4 Decor products are manufactured in Melbourne, Australia. This means that we have ready access to stock, and do not have to incur the costs of importing (which other brands do and pass on to the consumer).
Australian Registered Company:
DS4 Decor is a fully registered Australian Company (ACN 669 154 518). This means that you enjoy the full protection of Australian consumer law and standards.
So, while choosing lightweight cornices is an easy decision, choosing which lightweight cornices can be tricky. To be sure of the quality and service you deserve, choose DS4 Decor, only available through The Cornice Store.
